Molybdenum (as Amino Acid Chelate)
Chelated molybdenum is mineral molybdenum that has been attached to an amino acid through molecular mechanisms. The chelated form is used as a dietary supplement to prevent molybdenum deficiency and aid in breaking down proteins. It is only required by the body in trace amounts, but it plays significant roles especially in patients with chronic conditions.
Enzyme Catalyst
Molybdenum Citrate functions as a co-factor for several enzymes, including Sulfite oxidase, Aldehyde oxidase and Xanthine oxidase. Its interaction with Sulfite oxidase facilitates the formation of sulfate from sulfite, a reaction that is essential for the metabolism of amino acids containing sulfur. Humans need chelated molybdenum as it assists the Xanthine oxidase enzyme in breaking down nucleotides to produce uric acid, an important booster to plasma anti-oxidation.
Prevention of Cancer and Cure of Autoimmune Illnesses
While more research needs to be done on the effectiveness of molybdene on medical conditions, the mineral has been associated to the prevention of cancer and fighting inflammatory diseases. The presence of molybdenum in the soil prevents the production of the cancer-producing agents called nitrosamines. Tetrathiomolybdate is a variant of molybdenum that lowers the levels of copper in the body, thus making it easy to treat inflammatory, fibrotic and autoimmune diseases.

Detoxification
Humans need molybdenum chelates if the successful detoxification within the body tissues is to be achieved. This mineral is essential in breaking down aldehydes, the toxin responsible for hangover when a person takes too much alcohol. It also oxidises sulfites and other toxins that perpetuate the development of chronic illnesses. The use of Sodium Molybdate supplements prohibits development of eczema, fibromyalgia, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease. Amino acid-linked molybdenum has been found to boost memory, reduce depression, chronic fatigue, chronic weakness, insomnia and improve mental concentration.
Dosage
It is recommended to take between 50-100 mcg of molybdenum daily, although the prescription may vary depending on age and well-being of a person. However, excessive intake of the element is dangerous as it causes copper deficiency.
