Mike Vogel (born July 17, 1979), is an American actor who has many acting credits under his belt including appearing in movies such as "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" (2003), "The Help" (2011) and "Cloverfield" (2008). You may recognize him as the main character in the television series "Under the Dome", where he played Iraqi War veteran Dale "Barbie" Barbara. Mike Vogel loves staying in shape with proper diet and exercise whether he is preparing for a role or not.
Learning About Health & Fitness Early On

Dating all the way back to high school, Vogel was a star wrestler and had graduated at a height of 5 ft 10 in, weighing 125 pounds. He almost lost his way after high school because of the new-found freedom to eat whatever he wanted to, when he wanted to. Check out what Vogel recently revealed in an interview on life after high school: "When I graduated from high school, I weighed 125 pounds because of wrestling. Suddenly, I realized I could eat whatever I wanted - plus, Creatine was new at the time. I went from 125 to 175 pounds, working out like crazy. I was yoked. But I wasn't drinking enough fluids and ended up with a kidney stone - and 3 weeks of pure hell." Creatine are supplements used to increase high-intensity athletic performance and was first widely available in the early 1990's.
Mike Vogel Exercise Routines

Even though Mike Vogel loves staying in shape with proper diet and exercise, he admits that he hates cardio because that is all that he did when he was training in school He realizes that cardio is a very good way to burn fat and help keep that strong muscle mass but he says that he got bored with it. To keep up with maintaining his healthy lifestyle, he says that he participates in doing things that are "very uncharacteristic of a normal workout routine." With his busy lifestyle, he has to make sure that his workout routine is so unique and interesting that he can never find an excuse to break away from it. Vogel is addicted to playing baseball when ever possible and his personal trainer has used this fact to turn playing baseball into a fat-burning workout routine. Part of the main routine includes sprinting down the first base-line, jogging from first base to home, sprinting from first to second, then jogging to home base and finally sprinting all the way around. This is met by 30 seconds of rest and then doing it again. After resting, Vogel takes rapidly fired "grounders" from his trainer and moves around the baseball field as fast as he can. Football-themed "Ladders" (running to one point, running back, running to a farther point, running back, and so on) are matched with target throwing with baseballs.
Mike Vogel And The Importance Of Staying Hydrated & Eating Right

After his bad experience with getting a kidney stone when he was younger, Vogel vowed to diet and exercise like a "grown-up." He now stays hydrated by drinking water before, during and after every meal and always keeps water nearby while working out. He recommends eating to beat a slow metabolism and consults his mother who is not only a competitive bodybuilder, but a nutritionist. He gives her credit for helping him turn his eating habits around. His recommendations are less calorie-packed meals and more smaller portions of lean meat and vegetables throughout the day.
