Karl Urban (born 7 June 1972) is an actor from New Zealand who may be most remembered from roles that he played in movies such as "Judge Dredd" and "The Lord of the Rings". He was also seen in the syndicated American/New Zealand television series "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys" and its' spin-off "Xena: Warrior Princess". Urban, who has two children of his own, is a celebrity ambassador for KidsCan, which is an organization that currently supports over 16,000 disadvantaged children in New Zealand. These children are provided with the essentials like food and clothing to help give them a chance at being able to reach their full potential in life. Karl Urban works up a sweat preparing for movie roles on a constant basis. The actor is currently promoting his upcoming appearances in two American-based movies: "Star Trek Beyond" (releasing 22 July 2016) and "Thor: Ragnarok" (releasing 3 November 2017).
Karl Urban Bulks Up For "Judge Dredd 3D"

To prepare for the role of a totally ripped, very muscular character named “Judge Dredd” in 2012 for the movie "Judge Dredd 3D", Urban had to go through a very extreme workout routine. The Kiwi actor says that he worked intensively with his trainer for a period of 13-14 weeks to get into shape and says that by the end of it all, he was in "fantastic shape, actually the best shape of my life". In an interview that same year, Urban also stated ''Half of getting into shape is eating the right food, so every two hours you have to feed your body the right nutrients in order for it to respond and for the muscles to repair and grow." He says that "Staying in shape is a full-time job and one that I don't particularly enjoy.'' Urban also admitted that he wasn't the nicest person to deal with at that time and this was due to promoting another movie at the same time, traveling internationally and having to continue his strenuous workout routine through it all. He was eating 6-7 meals per day to bulk up but says that it wasn't his favorite type of food. Actually, right before filming "Judge Dredd 3D," he appeared in a fight scene in another movie called "Red," where he sustained a spinal, neck and arm injury. He had to go through months of physiotherapy and luckily, was able to successfully build his body back up after a rehabilitation weights program.
Karl Urban's Eating Habits

Karl Urban is the first to admit that he is not the type to eat steamed veggies and proper foods on a consistent basis. His eating style is mostly protein-enriched meals that gives his body energy that he needs to make it through the day and his workouts. He says in regards to how his eating habits changed after filming, "I like beer, fries and burgers. There’s only so long you can eat chicken and broccoli." The actor's favorite lunch spot is in California at a place called "Bay Cities Deli" In Santa Monica. His favorite sandwich is made of salsalito (roasted) turkey, provolone cheese, pickles and lettuce. The New Zealand native is always working on a new movie so he is always training in preparation for these roles whether actively filming or not. With the food that he eats being the source of energy that he needs for his workout routine, you can tell by his body that it works well for him.
