I think most of us know that a long and healthy life doesn't come from prescription medicines but rather comes from your genetic make up, diet and exercise. At this time, there's nothing you can do about your genes but you can do something about diet and exercise. There are a few basics that you can follow initially and that will get you started to health and longevity. These starter tips will eventually settle in and open new pathways for even greater health. I'm going to supply 3 easy tips for you to try and of course there are many variations on the theme but any which way this works.

The first tip is to begin every day with a hot cup of lemon water. This is coming from old European tradition and it has merit. Actually what I do is make hot green tea with lemon every morning. Probably everyone knows that this helps to keep bowel movements regular because it activates the gastrointestinal reflex. What happens is that lemons leave behind an alkaline residue made up of calcium, magnesium and potassium and this helps keep you regular. This nonalcoholic hot toddy initiates a sense of well being and helps to make you want healthy foods such as leafy greens, vegetables and fruits. Foods that provide you with good nutrition such as antioxidants, vitamins, fiber, minerals, enzymes and chlorophyll.

The second tip is to say no to alcohol. It is nice to have a glass wine, beer or other alcohol sometimes after a hard day so we relax. Well, probably not a good idea. Alcohol does seem to relax you but it interferes with hormone balance. Behaviorally, this throws off your sleep patterns, can generate leaky gut, crankiness and skin problems. Your cortisol levels go up when consuming alcohol. Cortisol is known as the stress hormone so more cortisol the more stress you feel. Not good! Take home message is to stay away from alcohol and this will aid in living a long and healthy life.

The Third tip is to take in cod liver oil daily, about 1 teaspoon. Again, this is old time European regime but hey it works. So what's in cod liver oil that is so important? Omega-3's are there and this is real brain food and it particularly contains omega-3's such as EPA and DHA. This oil also contains vitamins A, D, E and K. Actually omega-3's are needed by every cell in the body.
Think about these three tips and how they might work for you. They require little work to be done and the benefits are far reaching. Really, 1 hot cup of lemon water, no alcohol and one teaspoon of cod liver oil daily is all it takes. This pushes you behaviorally to making healthier choices.
