Weight gain has become a major problem for many people these days. Though inactive lifestyle is a major cause of obesity, one cannot ignore the fact that bad food choices is a major cause of health issues. When it comes to maintaining a healthy diet, most of the people at first prefer cutting on the desserts. However, someone, who has a "sweet tooth" may not find it quite easy to completely avoid sweets after a meal. If you are one of these people, who is struggling to give up the desserts completely, you can now switch to healthier alternatives. Yes, it might sound surprising, but some sweets can help you in reducing amount of sugar and calories you would normally consume with other deserts.
Chocolate - is it a healthy choice?

Healthy choice of chocolates - can you ever imagine to have chocolate desserts without getting a guilt feeling? Well, you can now do it by dipping strawberries in a chocolate dip and refrigerating it in a freezer until the coating is hardened. To have it after dinner, just get it out of the freezer before you begin your meal. You can also do the same trick with other fruits. Just get a small bag of frozen mixed berries, cover it with liquid chocolate and place it back into freezer. Another idea for a healthy dessert is pop corn. You can get non buttered pop-corn, apply cocoa dust to make a crunchy sweet popcorn dessert. Another healthy chocolate dessert is banana with chocolate. Peel one banana and cut it in equal halves. Freeze it and once it solidifies, get it rolled in molten dark chocolate.
How about Yogurt?

Yogurt with fresh fruit and dark chocolate - Take one cup of pane yogurt, preferably Greek with less calories and add toppings of your choice - fruit, nuts, granola or graham crackers. If you want, you can also add some shaved chocolate to satisfy your sweet cravings. Yogurt is more on the creamy and fatty side, so smaller portion, better it is for your health. Try to go with 3 oz containers.
Stay Healthy

Be smart with your food choices and stay healthy - Everything you eat and drink, besides water, includes calories and sugar. Remember to always consider portion control for every meal. Overeating and consuming unnecessary amounts of calories, fat and sugar will always lead to health complications.
Remember that eating fiber is essential with every meal - fiber helps to slow down sugar spikes and reduce blood glucose which transforms into fat.
Everything you consume in your body, eventually transforms into sugar, one way or another. Having sugar spikes and having unused insulin floating around your body, eventually transforms into fat deposits. You must watch out for things like empty calories, such as alcohol or soda. Avoid unhealthy food as much as possible. Sure you can have a "treat" once in the while, but if these "treats" becomes a habit, you will eventually experience health complications one way or another.
Remember, before you drink that glass of soda, that it will take 2 hours of running on treadmill just to burn these calories. Each glass of soda also comes with 20 grams of sugar. Just look how big 20 grams of sugar look before drinking that glass of soda next time. Stay fit and healthy!
