LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers led his team to their first championship by defeating the Golden State Warriors. This was Lebron's third NBA title and definitely a legacy-making win. So, how did this come about? Clearly the man is talented but could his diet had something to do with it. In 2014, Lebron went on a no-carb ketosis diet for 67 days. All he had to eat was meat, fish, veggies and fruit. His weight loss was rapid. But more than rapid weight loss this low carb diet has a number of health benefits.
This diet drastically reduces your sugar and carbohydrate intake, increases protein and fat intake. When your body needs energy to make ATP (the energy currency of the cell)it burns sugar (glucose) first. As the body runs out of sugar it begins burning fat from your fat stores. If you run out of fat, then your body burns protein which it will take from muscle tissue. With a low carb diet, your sugar levels are low and this forces the body to burn fat to make ATP. So if you have some extra pounds of fat you want to get rid of this is the way to do it quickly.
A ketogenic diet forces your body to burn fat once all your carbs are used. This puts you into a state known as ketosis.. This turns you into an incredible fat burning machine. You can easily lose 7 pounds a week. The diets below are very similar to Atkins diet. Perhaps you are familiar. Types of ketogenic diets:
standard ketogenic diet (SKD) – this is a very low sugar diet where you take in average amounts of protein along with a lot of fats.
Cyclical ketgenic diet *CKD) – similar to SKD but you have 5 days of ketogenic diet like SKD and followed by 2 days of high carbs.
Targeted ketogenic diet (TKD) – same as SKD but this diet allows you add carbs during your workout times.
